Why is my PS3 controller not working?

I have put the charge onto the controller (so its meant to be charging) and when i press the PS button it won't turn on. This is the same for my other controller, can someone please help? Why is my PS3 controller not working?
Have you tried the following:

With the PLAYSTATION 3 system turned on (power indicator is lit green), connect the controller to the system using a USB cable.

To check the battery level on the controller, press and hold the [PS logo] button for at least two seconds. The battery鈥檚 charge level will be displayed on the PLAYSTATION 3 screen.

Lastly try power cycling your PS3 peripherals:

Turn the network device OFF (i.e., unplug it from the power source).

After two minutes, turn it back ON (i.e. plug it back in and turn on the power).

This will allow the network device to refresh its settings.

It is very important to power-cycle ALL of your network equipment for two (2) FULL minutes.*Why is my PS3 controller not working?
